Roots Abroad
A psychology-informed cohort experience for Latina mothers raising children between cultures.
Raising children away from your roots can bring opportunities, but also questions that are rarely talked about: identity, cultural differences, guilt, fear, expectations, and the feeling of navigating two worlds at once.
But motherhood doesn't begin with a blank slate. We bring our own stories with us—family patterns, fears, unresolved experiences, anxiety, expectations, and sometimes trauma that existed long before our children were born. Migration can add another layer: leaving behind familiar support systems, adapting to a new culture, and trying to create stability while navigating change ourselves.
Roots Abroad creates space to understand how these experiences may shape the way we respond, protect, connect, and parent—so we can become more aware of what belongs to our children's story and what may be coming from our own.
The idea is to create a space for Latina mothers to better understand themselves, recognize how migration and their own experiences influence the way they parent, and strengthen connection with their children.
Through psychology-informed conversations, practical tools, reflection, and community, we explore how to move from survival and fear toward greater awareness, security, possibility, and conscious choice.
From surviving to building.
Because strengthening the relationship with our children often begins with understanding what is happening within ourselves.

We cannot change where we come from.
But we can become more conscious of what we carry forward.
This page is still being written.
A place to think out loud
You don't need the answers to belong here.
A place for the conversations we usually have alone, in our heads, at 1 a.m.
Most of us carry a version of the same questions.
- Where do I actually belong?
- Am I raising my kids to honor both cultures they come from?
- Why do I still feel like I don't fully fit, anywhere?
- How do I reconnect with myself after years of taking care of everyone else?
You're not the only one asking. And you don't have to answer alone.
What this is
A space for honest conversation about identity, belonging, relationships, parenting, culture, and change. Not a support group, not a classroom — just people listening before judging, showing up as they actually are.
What you'll find
- Regular gatherings to connect — the format keeps evolving
- Conversations that welcome disagreement and difference, not just agreement
- Psychology made practical, not academic
- No pressure to have it figured out before you show up
Come as you are
Come with questions. Come with none. Come to listen. Come to be heard. There's a place for you exactly as you are — belonging here was never conditional on having the right answer.
As the community grows, so will the ways to go deeper — including guided programs for people who want to take this further.
